About Jonel
I teach English and ELA with the goal of making every class something students look forward to. Over the past eight years, I’ve worked with learners from young children to adults, creating lively, interactive sessions that spark curiosity and build confidence. I want students to leave each lesson not only with stronger skills but also with the sense that learning English can be enjoyable.
In our first session, I focus on understanding the learner, what excites them, where they struggle, and how they approach tasks. I work backwards until we find a skill they’re comfortable with, then build from there. Between classes, I give short, purposeful tasks instead of long worksheets and check in with parents about what study time at home really looks like. By keeping lessons fun, practical, and tailored, I help students grow in both ability and confidence.

Why Jonel tutors
I started teaching English because I wanted students to feel that learning could be exciting, not intimidating. Over the years, I’ve worked with kids, teens, and adults, and I’ve found that the best way to help them grow is to make each class fun and memorable. Whether it’s through games, stories, or lively discussions, I try to create lessons that spark curiosity and leave students feeling proud of what they’ve accomplished.

One achievement I’m proud of is helping students who began feeling discouraged and convinced they weren’t good at English. By working backwards to find what they already understood, I built lessons that were fun, manageable, and confidence‑boosting.
The result wasn’t just stronger skills - it was seeing those same students speak up, enjoy learning, and believe in themselves. That transformation is what makes the progress meaningful.

Outside of teaching, I recharge by playing the piano, watching movies, and exploring new places. These activities keep me inspired and give me fresh ideas I can bring into the classroom.
I also enjoy crafting projects, working on small business ideas, and spending time in Bible study. These pursuits balance my life and enrich the way I connect with students, making lessons more engaging and memorable.
Specializations
- Dyslexia and reading difficultiesWorks with students who decode slowly or avoid reading aloud.
I’ve taught students with dyslexia who often start out feeling frustrated with reading and writing. My approach is to make lessons fun and manageable by using multisensory activities, breaking tasks into smaller steps, and building on what they already know.
Instead of long worksheets, I give short, purposeful tasks and check in with parents about study routines at home. This way, progress feels achievable, and students gain not only stronger skills but also confidence in themselves as learners.
