About Susana
I teach science through hands-on learning, simulations, and real-world problem-solving. Rather than simply memorizing facts, students learn to understand how and why things work. I use virtual lab simulations to help students explore scientific concepts, practice experiments, interpret results, and develop the skills scientists use in real laboratories.
I also bring complex, real-life situations into our lessons so students can apply what they learn beyond the textbook, whether that means analyzing experimental data, solving a biology problem, understanding a health-related scenario, or explaining a scientific phenomenon. My goal is to make science interactive, practical, and easier to connect to everyday life.
I first identify what the student already understands and where they are getting stuck. From there, we build step by step through questions, guided practice, simulations, and problem-solving. I want students to leave each session not only knowing the answer, but feeling confident in how to think through a scientific problem on their own.
Why Susana tutors
I started tutoring while I was in college, when I noticed that several of my classmates were struggling with the transition to virtual learning during the COVID-19 restrictions. I wanted to help them not only understand the course material, but also develop effective study techniques and strengthen their conceptual understanding.
That experience showed me how important it is to adapt teaching to each student's needs. Since then, I have focused on helping students understand science through clear explanations, guided practice, simulations, virtual labs, and real-life situations. My goal is to help students become more confident, independent learners who know not only what the answer is, but how to approach a problem and find it themselves.

Outside of teaching, I love staying active and creative. I enjoy dancing flamenco, running, and practicing Pilates. I also love spending time outdoors, especially going for walks in nature, drink coffee and making time to be with my family. These activities help me stay energized, curious, and balanced, qualities I also bring into my teaching.
Specializations
- Executive function and study skillsBuilds planning, organisation and study routines alongside the subject.
- ADHD and attention difficultiesKeeps a session workable for a student who cannot hold focus through one.
- Working to an IEP or 504 planReads a documented accommodation plan and teaches to it.
I also worked as a middle school science teacher, where I taught students with different learning needs and levels of understanding. I worked with the PIAR curriculum, adapting lessons, activities, and learning strategies to meet individual students' needs. This experience helped me become a more flexible teacher and taught me how to adjust my teaching style, pace, and explanations to make science accessible and engaging for every student.
