About Kiran

I’m an English and Psychology educator with 5+ years of teaching experience, specialising in IBDP, IGCSE, IB, CBSE, ICSE, Ontario and other international curricula. I also work with students preparing for SAT, GMAT, CUET and VARC.

My teaching approach is built around three stages: guided learning, mirroring and independent application. I first work alongside students to model how to approach a question, then encourage them to apply the same strategies independently, and finally provide focused feedback to help them refine their thinking and writing.

I focus not just on helping students find the right answer, but on developing critical thinking, analytical writing, communication, vocabulary and confidence. Whether a student needs structured exam preparation, academic writing support, literature analysis or help building a stronger command of English, I tailor my lessons to their individual learning needs.

With a background in English and Psychology and postgraduate academic experience, I bring an interdisciplinary approach to teaching that encourages students to think deeply, write clearly and become increasingly independent learners.

Why Kiran tutors

I love tutoring because I enjoy seeing the moment when a concept that once seemed difficult suddenly becomes clear to a student. For me, teaching is not simply about delivering information, it is about helping students develop the confidence to think, question, articulate and arrive at ideas independently. What I find most rewarding is watching students gradually move from needing guidance to trusting their own abilities. I especially enjoy working with English and literature because there is rarely just one way to interpret an idea; students can develop their own perspectives while learning how to support them with clarity and precision. Every student learns differently, and that makes tutoring intellectually rewarding for me. I love adapting my approach, identifying what a student needs, and creating that moment where they realise, “I can do this myself.”

A student Kiran helped

One achievement I’m particularly proud of is helping a student who had struggled considerably with English move from a C grade to an A. Instead of relying solely on conventional grammar drills and rudimentary syntax exercises, I approached English through creative writing and storytelling. We worked on understanding ideas, developing a personal voice, building narratives and expressing thoughts with clarity. By making English something she could engage with creatively rather than something she simply had to memorise, she gradually became more confident in her writing and communication. Seeing her progress from struggling with the subject to achieving an A was incredibly rewarding. It reminded me why I believe that when students are given the right approach, they can discover abilities they did not know they had.

Outside tutoring

Outside tutoring, I love writing poetry and exploring the world through words, emotions and stories. I am also a professional theatre actor, which has given me a deep appreciation for performance, storytelling and the many ways we communicate beyond words. Theatre and poetry allow me to stay creative and curious, and they strongly influence the way I teach. I enjoy bringing imagination, expression and a sense of storytelling into everything I do.

Specializations

  • Autistic studentsAdapts pace, structure and sensory load, and keeps a session predictable.
  • Executive function and study skillsBuilds planning, organisation and study routines alongside the subject.
  • ADHD and attention difficultiesKeeps a session workable for a student who cannot hold focus through one.

I have experience working with students with ADHD and autistic students, and I have learned that effective teaching often begins with understanding how a student learns rather than expecting every student to learn in the same way. For students who find conventional classroom structures challenging, I make the exam journey more manageable by breaking larger tasks into smaller, achievable steps, using clear and consistent instructions, and incorporating storytelling, visualisation and interactive activities where helpful. I also give students time to process ideas and gradually build their independence rather than overwhelming them with too much information at once. My focus is not on changing the way a student learns, but on adapting my teaching so that they can access the curriculum with greater confidence. Over time, this approach can make exam preparation feel less intimidating and help students recognise their own strengths while developing practical strategies for approaching quest
