About Maricris
I teach Math, English and Science to K-12 students, helping them understand difficult concepts in a simple and approachable way. I adjust my teaching style based on each student’s level, learning pace and needs, and I like to break lessons into smaller steps before moving on to guided and independent practice. I also use examples and questions to help students think through problems instead of simply giving them the answer. Over time, I have seen students become more confident in participating, explaining their answers and solving problems independently, especially when they initially struggled with a topic.

Why Maricris tutors
I tutor because I enjoy helping students reach the moment when something that once seemed difficult finally starts to make sense. I believe that struggling with a subject does not mean a student is not capable of learning it; sometimes they simply need a different explanation, more practice or someone who is patient enough to guide them through it. I enjoy getting to know how each student learns and adjusting my approach to meet their needs. What keeps me doing this work is seeing students become more confident, participate more actively and eventually solve problems on their own. I want my students to leave each lesson feeling that they are capable of learning and improving.
Maricris M., in their own wordsA student Maricris helped
The student initially found probability confusing, especially when deciding which information to use and which probability type applied to a problem. I introduced Venn diagrams as a visual way to organize the data and used color-coding to make the sets, intersections and relevant information easier to identify. We followed an “I Do, We Do, You Do” approach, gradually moving from teacher-guided examples to independent problem-solving. I also created a summary comparing different probability types, including their keywords, symbols and when to use each one. By the end of the lessons, the student was more confident in organizing data, identifying the correct probability method and explaining their mathematical reasoning using appropriate vocabulary.

Outside tutoring, I enjoy playing the guitar and singing. Music is something I enjoy in my free time because it gives me a chance to relax and be creative. I also enjoy learning new things and spending time with family and friends. I believe these interests help me bring creativity, patience and a positive attitude into my tutoring sessions.
Specializations
- ADHD and attention difficultiesKeeps a session workable for a student who cannot hold focus through one.
I have experience tutoring a child with ADHD and learned to adapt my approach to help maintain her focus and engagement during lessons. I use short and clear instructions, interactive activities, frequent check-ins and positive encouragement to keep her involved. I also adjust the pace when needed and give her brief changes in activity to help maintain attention. My approach is patient and flexible, while taking into account the learner’s individual needs and responses.
