About Lyza

I have taught Mathematics from Grade 1 to Grade 8, giving me experience working with students at different levels and learning needs. I always start with the basics, even with concepts they may already know, to make sure their foundation is strong. I build trust by letting students know that I am there to guide them, then assess their understanding and adjust my approach, whether they need more practice with the fundamentals or are ready to move forward.

Why Lyza tutors

I believe every student can learn Math when given the right guidance, support, and encouragement. In one-on-one tutoring, I focus on understanding each student's strengths, challenges, and learning style so I can adjust my teaching approach to their needs. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and exploring different ways to solve problems without the fear of being left behind. My goal is not only to help them understand Math concepts but also to build their confidence, develop their problem-solving skills, and see how they can apply Math in real-life situations. Most importantly, I want every student to feel that they are capable of learning, improving, and succeeding in Math.

A student Lyza helped

I once had a very shy student who didn’t really love Math. By my third year of teaching, I decided to try a different approach. I wanted her to see Math not just as a subject, but as a tool she could use in everyday life.

I gave her a small vault with a combination lock. To open it, she had to read carefully, understand the problem, visualize it, and solve it. She trusted me enough to try, and when she finally opened the vault, she was so excited.

From then on, we played Math games and took on mental calculation challenges. She became faster, more confident, and learned to approach problems with patience and focus.

Years later, she is now at Marikina Science High School, and she still communicates with me. She recently told me that she’s acing Math and can now do mental calculations quickly.

That, for me, is success: not just teaching a student Math, but helping her believe that she can do it.

Outside tutoring

Outside teaching, I enjoy exploring the world through curiosity and problem-solving. I love going to the beach and appreciating the beauty of creation, especially the patterns, shapes, and geometry found in nature. I’m also a foodie who enjoys figuring out the ingredients and measurements behind the food I try, simply for the fun of it. In my free time, I watch debunking videos, challenge claims, and enjoy separating facts from misinformation. I also play casual chess on Chess.com, mentor beginn
