About Ivy
My Teaching Approach
I believe that every student can learn Math with the right guidance, patience, and teaching approach. With more than 10 years of experience in online Math tutoring and a background in Math Education, I focus on making lessons clear, engaging, and easy to understand.
My Teaching Methods
I use a student-centered approach where I first identify the student’s strengths, learning gaps, and areas that need improvement. I explain concepts step-by-step using simple examples, visual representations, practice exercises, and real-life applications whenever appropriate. I also encourage students to ask questions and explain their solutions so I can help them develop both accuracy and confidence.
A Typical Lesson
Each lesson usually begins with a short review of previous topics or prerequisite skills. I then introduce the new concept, demonstrate examples step-by-step, and guide the student through practice problems. As the lesson progresses, I gradually allow the student to solve problems independently while providing support when needed. We finish with a quick review of the key concepts and areas to practice.
What Sets Me Apart
My goal is not simply to help students get the correct answer but to help them understand why the answer is correct. I am patient, approachable, and willing to explain a concept in different ways until the student understands it. I adapt my lessons to each student’s pace and learning style while helping them become more independent and confident problem-solvers.
Who My Lessons Are For
I provide Math tutoring for elementary, middle school, high school, and college-level students, depending on their specific needs. I can assist with foundational Math, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, problem-solving, test preparation, homework support, and review of challenging Math concepts.

Why Ivy tutors
I love tutoring because there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student go from “I don’t understand this” to “Oh, I get it now!” 💛 I want to make Math feel less intimidating and help students realize that struggling with a topic doesn’t mean they’re not good at Math. Every student learns differently, and I truly enjoy getting to know each student and finding the explanations, examples, and activities that work best for them. What keeps me going is seeing their confidence grow. I especially love those little moments when a student solves a problem independently, explains their thinking, or starts to believe, “Maybe I really can do this!” My goal is for every student to leave our lessons not only knowing more Math, but also feeling a little more confident in themselves. For me, tutoring is not just about teaching Math, it’s about helping students discover that they are capable of learning and succeeding. 🌟
Ivy D., in their own wordsA student Ivy helped
I’m proud to have helped students become more confident and independent in Mathematics. I specialize in working with students in Grades 5 to 10, including learners who may struggle with Math concepts or lack confidence in their abilities.
One achievement I’m especially proud of was helping a Grade 9 student who initially felt that he wasn’t good at Math and was hesitant to participate in class. I learned that he was a visual learner, so I adapted my lessons by using diagrams, step-by-step visuals, and clear examples. Over time, he became more comfortable solving problems, started participating more, and eventually realized that he could actually be good at Math.
For me, that kind of progress is just as meaningful as improving a test score. Seeing a student go from “I can’t do this” to “I understand it!” is one of the most rewarding parts of being a tutor.
Ivy D., in their own wordsOutside tutoring
Outside tutoring, I love spending time with my family and enjoying the simple moments with my children. They keep me busy, happy, and always learning something new! 😊
I also enjoy exploring new things, learning about technology and useful online tools, and finding creative ways to make everyday tasks easier. I love learning, so I’m always curious about something new.
Most of all, I enjoy being around people, learning from their experiences, and creating positive connections 💛.
