About Rachel
I teach Math from Kindergarten through Grade 8, from early skills like counting, number recognition, and basic operations to fractions, decimals, problem-solving, pre-algebra, and algebra.
Over the past two years, I have worked with more than 250 students and completed over 5,500 learning sessions. Much of my teaching experience has focused on building strong mathematical foundations through small, manageable steps before moving on to more challenging concepts.
I adjust my lessons based on each student’s current ability, learning pace, and confidence. Instead of simply giving answers, I use questions, examples, and patterns to help students understand how to work through problems independently.
In one of my previous tutoring roles, I also worked closely with students progressing beyond their school grade level. Out of 60 students under my supervision, 41 reached above-grade-level placement, with some studying one to five years ahead.
Whether I am helping a young learner understand numbers for the first time or guiding a Grade 8 student through algebra, my goal is to strengthen their foundations, build confidence, and help them become more independent in Math.
Why Rachel tutors
I did not originally begin tutoring because I knew it was something I wanted to do long-term. I started teaching while taking a break from my studies, but as I spent more time working with students, I began to appreciate how meaningful the work could be.
Having been a student myself, I understand how intimidating Math can feel, especially when a lesson moves too quickly or when one missing skill makes the next topic much harder to understand. Because of that, I try to be patient and pay attention to where a student is actually struggling rather than focusing only on whether their final answer is correct.
What keeps me tutoring is seeing students gradually become more confident and independent. I especially enjoy the moment when something that once felt difficult finally makes sense to them and they realize they can solve it on their own.

One achievement I am especially proud of is helping a young learner who began with very limited number recognition, counting skills, and confidence in the classroom. We started with the fundamentals, using short, manageable activities and consistent practice before gradually introducing more challenging material. Over time, she became much more independent and confident in her work. She is now in pre-kindergarten and successfully working on mathematics 5 years above her school level, including fractions and reducing fractions. She also earned a Top 10 Nationwide placement in Mathematics in the Philippines through an advanced-student recognition program. Seeing her progress from needing support with basic counting to confidently working with advanced material has been one of the most meaningful parts of my teaching experience.

Outside teaching, I enjoy reading books and watching movies. I like discovering different stories, characters, and perspectives, and I think that naturally carries over into the way I teach.
Every student understands things differently, so I enjoy finding different ways to explain a concept until we find an approach that makes sense to them.

About sessions with Rachel
What does Rachel teach?
Math, for Kindergarten to Grade 8. Sessions are 1-on-1 and live, and you can ask for a specific topic before the first one.
Will my child work with Rachel every session?
Yes. Your child keeps the same tutor for as long as you want them, which is the point of the way we match. If the fit is wrong we will move you, and it costs nothing to change.
How do I book a session with Rachel?
Book the free session on this page. We call every family before the first session to confirm the details; ask for Rachel then and we will match you if they have room. The first session is free, there is no card, and no obligation to continue.
