About Melvin

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with unique, neurodivergent minds including students with Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disabilities (both verbal and non-verbal), and Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD). Because every student process information differently, my sessions are usually paired with multi-sensory tools, structured visual supports, and individualized behavioral strategies to keep learners regulated and engaged. Every session combines a gentle concept check-in, targeted practice, and a parent-friendly recap so families can clearly see what improved and what we are conquering next.

Why Melvin tutors

In a large classroom, it is easy for a unique learner to get left behind or overwhelmed by fast paced lessons. I chose tutoring because it allows me to slow down, decode a student’s specific learning style, and build a completely customized path focused entirely on real academic progress. There is nothing more rewarding than watching a struggling student move from 'I can't do this' to 'I just did it!'

A student Melvin helped

A brilliant 5th-grade math wizard came to me for coaching ahead of a prestigious international math contest. Together, we worked on high-level logic and competition mindset. Armed with newfound confidence and strategy, she advanced all the way to the finals and took home a winning award.

Specializations

  • Working to an IEP or 504 planReads a documented accommodation plan and teaches to it.
  • ADHD and attention difficultiesKeeps a session workable for a student who cannot hold focus through one.
  • Dyscalculia and math difficultiesWorks with students who struggle with number sense and arithmetic.
  • Dyslexia and reading difficultiesWorks with students who decode slowly or avoid reading aloud.

Over the past five years in the US, I have specialized in supporting neurodivergent learners specifically students with IEPs, ADHD, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Autism. To help every child thrive, I adapt the concrete mechanics of each session to match their processing style: trading long lectures for 10-minute focus bursts with structured reset breaks, replacing overwhelming worksheets with single-task color-coded cards, and running every lesson on a predictable, visual "First, Then" schedule. Through multisensory, structured phonics and targeted learning strategies, my students build steady confidence, jump reading levels, and consistently see their NWEA state test scores improve over time.
